Theater talks scheduled today
Leaders of the stage actors union intend to meet today to discuss what to do next in their stalled negotiations with theater producers -- a deadlock that threatens to shut down most of Broadway’s plays and musicals.
The union leaders could decide to authorize a strike vote. All shows are up and running for now.
The talks collapsed late Sunday as a midnight deadline approached for Actors’ Equity Assn. and the League of American Theatres and Producers.
Although no formal talks were held Monday, the league expressed optimism that a settlement could be reached. Discussions have centered on two major issues: nonunion tours of Broadway shows and rising healthcare costs.
