State’s Pump Prices Fall a 4th Week in a Row

Retail gasoline prices in California fell for a fourth straight week, slipping 2.2 cents to a statewide average of $2.237 for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline, a federal survey found.

Pump prices in California are down from a May 31 peak of $2.327 a gallon, according to the Energy Information Administration. In the last week, the nationwide average hit $1.921 a gallon for self-serve regular, down 1.6 cents.

Gasoline prices have been edging lower around the country, in part because of the declining price of crude oil. Crude oil for August delivery plunged $1.31 to $36.24 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, a 14% drop from a record close of $42.33 on June 1.
