Shining cinema

I enjoyed Kenneth Turan’s article “A Spotless Reminder About the Power of Emotion,” (April 25). Although Manohla Dargis wrote a fine review when the film “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” came out, I felt that Mr. Turan added some key points that Ms. Dargis had overlooked. Specifically, the review did not emphasize how special this film is in ways that are very rare in these days when we have revenge films coming out every week.

On the other hand, I found Mark Swed’s review of Deborah Voigt’s “Obsessions” (“Deborah Voigt Plays to the Balcony,” April 25) to be self-serving and unprofessional. He hardly mentions the actual music of the album and seems to have his own agenda. It is a collection of opera’s big moments. It is supposed to sound big. I’m not sure what Mr. Swed wants in this kind of album.
