City Councilman William Doane has resigned his seat two years early because of health reasons, he said Thursday.
Doane, 83, whose Seal Beach district covers about 60% of Leisure World, said his asthma is getting worse.
“I’m just getting too old and too tired. The time has come,” he said.
His resignation is effective Monday. Doane has served on the council several times since 1991.
He would have been termed out in 2006.
The city has 30 days to appoint a replacement or hold a special election.
