Venezuelan troops arrested a former finance minister accused of links to an anti-government plot, National Guard Gen. Alberto Betancourt said.
Retired Gen. Francisco Uson served briefly in President Hugo Chavez’s Cabinet before resigning during a short-lived 2002 coup. Police have arrested at least seven military officers after rounding up more than 100 Colombians who the government says were being trained as an anti-Chavez paramilitary force.
Opponents say the alleged plot is a pretext to disrupt their bid to hold a referendum on Chavez’s rule.
