Apparent Abduction in Corona

Corona police are seeking the public’s help in their investigation of an apparent kidnapping of a young woman caught on videotape.

Police spokesman Jesse Jurado said Thursday that detectives had no leads, and did not know the identity of the woman or her two assailants.

“It’s very frustrating,” he said. “We have nothing at this time.”

Police this week released a grainy, parking-lot security video that apparently shows the kidnapping taking place in a mall lot Sunday.

The woman, who may be a Latina and in her late teens or early 20s, is seen walking from the parking lot to a sidewalk outside the Corona Discount Mall when a black, hatchback coupe races up behind her. She looks over her shoulder, apparently recognizes the car’s occupants and flees.

The two men are shown getting out of the car and chasing the woman. One catches up to her, tosses her over his shoulder and shoves her into the trunk of the car. The woman yelled to nearby shoppers to call police. Bystanders apparently did nothing to stop the abduction, which occurred about 6 p.m.

Jurado said police are combing missing-persons reports but have no substantive leads.
