A Simi Valley man was arrested on suspicion of elder abuse and assault with a deadly weapon after an attack on a 77-year-old man in his apartment, police said Thursday.
Christopher Bonagrazia, 23, got into an argument Wednesday night with the man while visiting his residence in a retirement complex in the 1700 block of Heywood Street, Simi Valley Police Sgt. Roy Jones said.
Bonagrazia’s father is a longtime friend of the victim, Jones said.
The victim, whose name was not immediately released, was punched in the face and upper body after asking Bonagrazia to leave, Jones said.
The victim was able to trigger an alarm, which alerted the complex manager to the apartment. Bonagrazia was attempting to suffocate the victim with a pillow when the manager entered the apartment using an emergency key, Jones said.
The manager held Bonagrazia until police arrived, Jones said.
The victim was treated at Simi Valley Hospital and released.
The incident is under investigation.
