TV’s Moral Inconsistency
The Federal Communications Commission is hitting CBS with a $550,000 fine for the brief Janet Jackson “breast-baring” incident during the Super Bowl halftime show (Sept. 23). On the other hand, the FCC is permitting a massive advertising campaign by drug companies extolling the benefits of Viagra and similar products. These commercials are broadcast throughout the day, including times children could be watching. Inquisitive 10-year-olds will soon be discussing these drugs with their classmates.
Is this inconsistency a result of the major political contributions by the drug companies?
