EU Challenges U.S. on 1992 Agreement

The European Union and the United States skirmished over aid to Boeing Co. and Airbus, with Brussels accusing Washington of illegally terminating a 1992 bilateral accord when it filed its challenge at the World Trade Organization this week.
In a letter to Washington, the EU’s executive commission said it considered the agreement to be “still in force” while the two sides fight it out at the WTO, and warned against going ahead with “massive subsidies” for Boeing’s planned 7E7 Dreamliner.
A spokesman for the U.S. trade representative said either party could terminate the 1992 deal “if the other party is not in compliance.”
The EU denies that it violated the 1992 pact.
