Flood Toll Rises as 33 More Bodies Are Found

Rescuers found 33 more bodies in India’s remote northeastern state of Assam, bringing the death toll from unseasonably heavy rains in South Asia to 177.
Four days of storms triggered landslides in Assam and battered eastern India, Bangladesh and Nepal. In Assam’s Goalpara district, floods left behind the bloated carcasses of thousands of cows, buffaloes and goats.
The human deaths brought the number of people killed this year by rain, floods and flood-related diseases to 2,316 in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal.
