CIA Report Reinforces Doubts About Invasion

Re “Iraq’s illicit Weapons Gone Since Early ‘90s, CIA Says,” Oct. 7: The report about Iraq’s weapons programs makes two things clear.
First, Saddam Hussein was a villainous dictator who longed to get his hands on weapons of mass destruction. Second, while U.N. sanctions were in place, he made no attempt to do so.
This second part is in direct opposition to the Bush administration’s case for going to war. No one with friends or family in Iraq will find this new report easy to swallow, nor should they.

One by one, the Bush administration has seen its justifications for invading Iraq evaporate. Now President Bush is left with just one. “The world is a better place without Hussein.” Brilliant! A coup! Who can argue with that? Wouldn’t it be a great society if our police could take out a guy because the world would be a better place without him?
