The school board censured a member who criticized a reform proposal by likening the plan’s supporters to Nazi sympathizers.
Frances O’Neill Zimmerman said at board meeting Sept. 28 that the plan to use outside agencies to reform nine district schools would be betrayal akin to Jews collaborating with Nazis. She said some Jews “worked for the Nazis, and they shepherded their own people onto the trains and that is what we’re being asked to do here.” In a 3-2 vote Tuesday, the board passed a resolution deeming her comment “inappropriate, culturally insensitive and offensive to the Jewish community.”
