* Newspaper publisher ImpreMedia said it had acquired PrensAmerica Holdings Corp., publisher of La Raza, Chicago’s leading Spanish-language paper. Terms were not disclosed. ImpreMedia publishes Los Angeles-based La Opinion, the nation’s largest Spanish-language paper, and El Diario La Prensa in New York.
* Cisco Systems Inc., the largest maker of computer-networking equipment, and software giant Microsoft Corp. will combine efforts to screen computers for viruses before allowing the PCs to connect to company networks. The feature will be incorporated into the next version of Windows, due in 2006.
* The United States lodged a formal appeal with the World Trade Organization against a ruling that ordered it to withdraw some of its subsidies for producers of cotton and other commodities.
* Former WorldCom Inc. Chief Executive Bernard J. Ebbers, accused of leading the biggest accounting fraud in U.S. history, must stand trial in New York, not Mississippi where he lives and the company was based, a judge ruled.
