A life vest devotee’s constant concern

Regarding “Going Overboard” [Oct. 12]: My working hours are spent as captain of a sailboat. I’ve never been knocked over the side nor fallen in the ocean. Yet I wear, and make each of my clients wear, a life jacket.
We can only hope that juries confronted with unjacketed drowning victims conclude that those deaths were caused by gross negligence on the part of the skipper.
