Swogger Out for Year

Washington State quarterback Josh Swogger broke a bone in his right foot, ending his sophomore season.
The injury will require surgery, a Washington State athletic department official said Monday.
Washington State’s medical personnel said they believe the injury may have started as a stress fracture and developed into a full fracture within the last week.
Swogger had been playing with a partially torn ligament in his right knee and a sore ankle.
Swogger’s backup is redshirt freshman Alex Brink, who has played in two games this season.

Defensive back Brandon Johnson, who had two interceptions in Tennessee’s 21-17 victory at Mississippi, was suspended indefinitely for violation of team rules.
Coach Phillip Fulmer dismissed junior defensive back Chris Heath, who had been on a medical scholarship this season. Fulmer did not say what the violations were.

Redshirt freshman Kevin O’Connell will replace Matt Dlugolecki as San Diego State’s starting quarterback Saturday at New Mexico.
Coach Tom Craft made the move in part because Dlugolecki, a junior, injured an ankle in a loss to Colorado State on Saturday.

One of three Rutgers players injured Saturday night near the school in a multi-vehicle accident caused by a man accused of drunk driving remained in critical condition in a hospital at New Brunswick, N.J.
Safety Dondre L. Asberry, 20, suffered a spine fracture and head injuries in the accident.
Cornerbacks Leslie “Manny” Collins and Eddie Grimes, both 20, suffered head and facial injuries. They were treated and released.
