It’s Strait to the top, with Usher in second

George Strait’s “50 Number Ones” held on to the No. 1 spot on the national pop album sales chart for the second consecutive week, topping a revised edition of Usher’s “Confessions” last week by 14,000 copies.
The Strait album, which features such country hits as “Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind” and “All My Ex’s Live in Texas,” sold 190,000 copies last week to bring its two-week total to 534,000.
“Confessions” is the year’s biggest seller, but it had been slipping in recent weeks. To give it new life, a bonus DVD and some new tracks were added, helping the album to soar from No. 24 to No. 2 last week -- a position it retained Wednesday, Nielsen SoundScan reported. Counting both editions, the album has sold 6.2 million copies since its release in March.
Three artists entered the Top 10 this week: Celine Dion (No. 4, sales of 107,000), Mos Def (No. 5, sales of 95,000) and Sum 41 (No. 10, sales of 66,000).
Nelly fans, meanwhile, much prefer the rapper’s “Suit” album to his “Sweat” album. Both were released Sept. 14 and entered the chart at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. But “Suit” is now No. 3 (sales of 144,000), while “Sweat” has fallen to No. 12 (sales of 62,000).
