Put these on the list of dive bars

How could Geoff Boucher not include Arcadia’s venerable First Cabin on Huntington Drive among his “dive bars that rock” (“Dive Into the Night,” Oct. 14)?
The “dive” is half-Thorazine, half-chasers and most definitely proudly lowbrow. Faces as hard as starting blocks for a 100-meter dash mingle with upscalies trying to flee their roots, and the loud live music, strong drinks and dark lighting are ideal for masking whatever it is you’re running from.

Kudos to Geoff Boucher’s in-depth article on dive bars around L.A. He did leave out one of the most popular establishments, though: the Gaslite, 2030 Wilshire Blvd., Santa Monica. It is one of the few bars that opens at 6 a.m. After 9 p.m., Claire Ragge, the owner, offers karaoke with jazz and blues bands performing most nights. There’s always a line to get in on the weekends.
