European Nuclear Plan Called ‘Unbalanced’

A spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry called a European proposal seeking indefinite suspension of its nuclear activities “unbalanced” but said the Europeans made the right decision to engage in dialogue.

In talks Thursday in Vienna, envoys from Britain, France and Germany reportedly offered civilian nuclear technology and a trade deal to Tehran in return for Iran permanently giving up all uranium enrichment activities -- technology that can be used to produce nuclear fuel or nuclear weapons.

Meanwhile, another Iranian official said the nation’s Isfahan uranium conversion facility was “70% operational.” The plant is to be used to convert uranium powder into hexafluoride gas, a stage that precedes enrichment.
