Has the United States Become a Pariah State?
I was saddened to read Ian Buruma’s commentary on the U.S., “Lost Love: Americophilia Fades Away” (Oct. 25). It strikes me that there is an interesting confluence of opinion -- I think nearly everyone will agree that there are two great pariah states. But to too many, those states are not North Korea and Sudan, but the U.S. and Israel. It’s good occasionally to remember that it is possible to gain the whole world and lose one’s soul.
