Santa Barbara Event Draws Southland Elite

The Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions begins Friday and will include three girls’ volleyball teams that entered the week ranked among the top 30 in the country.
Manhattan Beach Mira Costa, ranked 30th in the nation by prepvolleyball.com, will vie for the title against a field of 15 others, including sixth-ranked San Jose Mitty and No. 29 Torrey Pines.
Other teams from the Southland competing are Newport Harbor, Long Beach Wilson, Torrance Bishop Montgomery, Santa Barbara and Goleta Dos Pueblos.
The championship match is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at Santa Barbara High.

With Dodger Stadium unavailable the first week of June, the City Section will have to change its league and playoff schedule this spring in order to play the championship finals on May 27 at Dodger Stadium. The likely schedule would have first-round games May 18, quarterfinals May 20 and semifinals May 24.
