Oxnard Man Is Indicted in 1993 Slaying

An Oxnard man has been indicted in the 1993 rape and killing of an 87-year-old woman in a seniors apartment complex, authorities said Tuesday.
Relying on DNA evidence, a Ventura County grand jury returned the indictment Monday against Ricardo Villa, 28, prosecutor Bill Haney said.
At the time of Beatrice Bellis’ death, Villa was a part-time maintenance worker in her Port Hueneme building.
Hairs found in her apartment were matched to Villa in December, Haney said.
The indictment alleges that Bellis, who was deaf and used a walker to get around, was killed during a rape and burglary.
Ventura County Dist. Atty. Greg Totten has not decided whether to seek the death penalty, Haney said.
