Parkland Praise

The article on the Soka University acquisition (“Prime Site to Become Parkland,” April 17) rightly credited the funding sources that helped acquire this property. However, ultimate thanks should go to the Sierra Club, which, along with Save Open Space and Monte Nido Valley Properties Assn., initiated a lawsuit against L.A. County and the faulty environmental impact report.
The case went to the state Court of Appeal, and the Sierra Club and friends won. This effectively meant that Soka University could not expand, probably the most important factor in Soka becoming a willing seller.
