FBI Arrests Two in Homeowner Fraud Case
The FBI arrested a Downey woman and a Torrance man Wednesday for allegedly victimizing dozens of Los Angeles County homeowners by promising falsely that they could stop foreclosures, federal authorities said.
According to an indictment by a federal grand jury in Los Angeles, Martha Rodriguez, 33, and Edward Seung Ok, 39, promised that co-signers would help the homeowners refinance their mortgages until they could clean up their credit and get their own new loans.
Instead, the indictment alleged, Rodriguez and Seung used falsified mortgage applications to defraud lenders and the homeowners, causing losses of at least $8 million.
Attorneys for Rodriguez and Seung couldn’t be reached for comment.
