Dunleavy Won’t Rest on Team’s Laurels

Opposing coaches have remarked on the efficiency of the Clipper offense, which has been among the keys to the team’s strong start.
Golden State Warrior Coach Mike Montgomery said he was impressed because the Clippers are “very efficient and very confident.” Coach Mike Dunleavy said recognition from opponents is flattering, but he’s focused on the big picture.
“It’s positive, because recognition for your work is always good, but I’m always worried about the next game,” Dunleavy said. “The guys in this league are such good players, and somebody can take you down if you relax just a little bit, so there’s no time to really enjoy what you’re doing.
“It’s great when you’ve got a couple of days off in between wins, because then you’ve got one day when you can really kind of savor it. The reality is you’re moving closer toward your goal, and you’re doing things better, and that’s what’s really great.”

Second-year point guard Shaun Livingston said he was pleased with his progress in recovering from back problems that have sidelined him since training camp.
“Everything is working out,” said Livingston, who recently resumed non-contact workouts with the team. “I’m just trying to get back in shape, because conditioning is the main thing.”

The Clippers, who began as the Buffalo Braves, returned to their roots in Monday’s 99-89 victory over the Miami Heat at Staples Center, wearing black-and-orange throwback Buffalo uniforms.
