Indian holy man wholly captivating

Julie SGARZI returned from a five-week pilgrimage to India in February with this remarkable portrait of a sadhu, or holy man. The shot was taken in the Bamboo Grove in Ragir in northern India. Sgarzi, who is a lecturer in depth psychology and a corporate consultant in Los Angeles, caught the sadhu’s eye and exchanged a brief greeting. “I gestured, asking permission to take his photo, and in a characteristic way, he rocked his head from side to side, agreeing,” she said. She used the zoom on her digital Olympus C-740 Ultra Zoom camera to capture his expression.
