Re “Unfit O.C. Sheriff’s Reservist Was Reinstated,” June 28: As boys we play with artificial guns: “Bang, bang -- you’re dead.” Boys grow to men. For many males the gun obsession continues, causing doctors and lawyers to become wannabe, ride-along cops. In the service of what -- their latent dark side? Concealed weapons and badges hidden beneath pinstriped suits or doctor’s smocks? Huh? Weird fun by closet Dick Tracys -- this makes us all safer?
Eliminate this dangerous pretend game -- before someone gets hurt.
