Supervisors Vote to Settle Pair’s Civil Rights Suit

Los Angeles County supervisors voted Tuesday to pay $150,000 to settle a civil rights lawsuit by two brothers who claimed they were beaten by sheriff’s deputies.
In a memo to supervisors, county lawyers said Albino and Elias Acosta resisted arrest but also noted that their family and a neighbor disputed that. The brothers were charged with battery on a peace officer and spent 40 days in jail before being acquitted. County lawyers estimated that a jury could award the pair $815,000.
