Woman Is Elected to Lead Disciples of Christ

The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) has elected the 770,000-member Protestant denomination’s first female president.
The Rev. Sharon E. Watkins, senior pastor at Disciples Christian Church in Bartlesville, Okla., won overwhelming support at the denomination’s General Assembly in Portland.
“Today is not about me,” said Watkins, 51. “It’s about all of us joining together and letting God work with us and through us.”
