City to Pay Family of Man Killed by Police

The city of San Diego will pay $975,000 to the family of a mentally disturbed man shot 31 times during a confrontation with San Diego police officers, according to a settlement reached this week.
Alejandro Jimenez, 24, of El Cajon died in March 2002 after fighting with officers in a strip mall parking lot.
Police were called to a candy store in the mall where Jimenez was banging a broomstick against plate-glass windows.
The agreement must be approved by the City Council, according to City Atty. Mike Aguirre.
