Suspect in Attack on President Is Dead

Taiwanese investigators said the key suspect in last year’s election-eve shooting of President Chen Shui-bian had drowned days after the attack.
Chen Yi-hsiung drowned nine days after the March 19 shooting, which gashed the president’s abdomen as he campaigned in an open-top jeep in the southern city of Tainan. His wife said he had confessed to the shooting, investigators said.
