Federal and local authorities arrested six suspected gang members Thursday in the Fontana area as part of an ongoing crackdown on street gangs stockpiling weapons and selling methamphetamine.
Officials with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Rialto and Fontana police departments over the past six months have confiscated 28 handguns, rifles and semiautomatic weapons and 26 pounds of methamphetamine, as part of the operation, Fontana police Sgt. William Megenney said.
“This local gang has wreaked havoc in our town for 10 to 15 years -- drug activity, graffiti, thefts and homicides,” Megenney said.
“It has affected the quality of life in Fontana, and we’re trying to take charge before it goes any further.”
