With arias from Jacques Offenbach’s “The Tales of Hoffmann” and John Corigliano’s “The Ghosts of Versailles,” Los Angeles-based tenor Rodell Aure Rosel, 29, was one of four singers to take top honors at the 51st annual Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions’ grand finals concert, held Sunday. The winners, who each receive $15,000, were chosen from an original field of 1,500 singers nationwide, 22 semifinalists and nine finalists.
“It’s a national competition, the largest of its kind, and it all boils down to the few that make the final concert,” said Gayletha Nichols, National Council Audition director. “I can easily say that it has launched many a career.”
