Expel Bersin

Re “Bersin Picked for Top Schools Position,” April 29: We have a state superintendent of schools, elected by California voters -- Jack O’Connell, a lifelong educator. He is in charge of our schools. No one else. We have no need for a lawyer/bureaucrat like Alan Bersin, who was relieved of his duties as superintendent of San Diego schools. He is not an educator, only an out-of-work attorney. He was bought out of his contract in San Diego for $240,000 and will command a salary of $123,000 in Sacramento, enough to fund the construction of two or three classrooms and/or needed teacher positions. We have no need for a so-called education secretary.
