Union Plans to Proceed With Laundry Strike

Union leaders said Wednesday that they would proceed with plans to launch a nationwide strike this morning against the nation’s largest hospital laundry service, potentially affecting half of the hospitals in Southern California.
Last-minute negotiations Wednesday by high-level company and union officials apparently failed. Neither side would comment on the status of talks.
Angelica Corp., based in Chesterfield, Mo., operates 35 industrial laundries across the country. The strike by Unite Here, a union of textile, laundry and hotel workers, would hit 15 plants, including all six of its operations in the Los Angeles area.
