Bicyclist Hit, Dies; Man Suspected of DUI Is Held

A Huntington Beach bicyclist died Friday just hours after police arrested a man suspected of hitting him while driving under the influence, authorities said.
Chris Joseph Kalina, 44, was riding southbound on Newland Street north of Jenny Drive late Thursday when a 2006 Dodge Charger drifted and hit him.
He died about 4:15 a.m. Friday at UCI Medical Center in Orange.
The driver -- Steven James Demarr, 36, of Huntington Beach -- was booked at the City Jail.
The investigation is continuing, authorities said.
