Money down the drain?

Patt Morrison’s contention that the Los Angeles River is a “very real river” (Opinion, Oct. 12) is not actually true.
There has been almost no “river water” there since the 19th century, when it was looted for agriculture. Almost all of the water in the river today is either storm water or reclaimed wastewater. If called by a proper name, the “Los Angeles Storm Drain and Wastewater Conduit,” there might be less interest in beautifying it. The millions of dollars it would cost to gentrify the river might better be spent for a more serious human problem -- the hordes of homeless who populate the streets of L.A.
