Armed Man Takes a Hostage After Chase

A man with a sawed-off shotgun took a female hostage inside a home in the 1300 block of Garner Avenue on Wednesday after being pursued for reckless driving by California Highway Patrol officers on Interstate 10 from Yucaipa, a police spokeswoman said.
Hostage negotiators were in contact with the man, and he had not fired any shots as of 7 p.m., police said.
