Human Rights Group Reports Abuses by Police

Police in the impoverished Pacific nation of Papua New Guinea routinely beat, torture and rape children in their custody, according to a report released by Human Rights Watch.
The 124-page report by the New York-based group says that government officials acknowledge the brutality but that “almost nothing has been done to stop it.”
In a telephone interview, Minister for Internal Security Bire Kimisopa said the government was working with police and international donors to improve the police force.
