One man was killed and two other people injured Saturday night when a man opened fire at a party in Compton and then was shot as partygoers tried to disarm him, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials said.
The gunman, whose name was not released, shot at several guests shortly after arriving at the party in the 500 block of East El Segundo Boulevard about 7:35 p.m., according to the Sheriff’s Department. His former wife was among the guests.
After shooting a man and a woman, the gunman was fatally shot during a struggle in which several guests tried to take the weapon from him, sheriff’s officials said. It was not clear whether he was shot with his own weapon or another weapon, a sheriff’s spokesman said.
The wounded party guests were hospitalized and listed in stable condition, the Sheriff’s Department said.
