A residential fire Tuesday afternoon was the result of a failed suicide attempt that left a Norwalk woman in critical condition and her two children injured, authorities said Saturday.
Arson investigators are still investigating what they described as an intentional fire set by 35-year-old Joanne Santos in a rear bedroom of her house, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department .
Santos’ 6-year-old son, Jared Santos, and 20-month-old daughter, Jordan Santos, were hospitalized for smoke inhalation and released to their father, the statement said. On Tuesday, sheriff’s deputies responding to a 911 call kicked down the door of the burning house in the 12800 block of Priscilla Street and pulled Santos and her children to safety.
