A crew member for a private company that fights forest fires was arrested on suspicion of setting five blazes that caused an estimated $1 million in damage during the last two weeks, authorities said.
David Dillion, 24, of Redding was arrested Saturday after police found him standing in a bathrobe watching a fire that severely damaged a carport, according to Redding Fire Inspector Dean Herzberg.
Dillion is a suspect in four other blazes, one of them set Saturday and the other three March 18, Herzberg said.
Dillion was booked on five counts of arson and was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is also investigating the fires.
