Two Sex Offenders Slain; Suspect Shoots Himself

Two registered sex offenders were fatally shot in their homes, and a Canadian man sought in connection with the slayings shot himself after Boston police cornered him, Maine authorities said.
Stephen A. Marshall, 20, described by Maine State Police as “a person of interest” in the case, was in critical condition at Boston Medical Center, a spokesman said.
The killings of Joseph L. Gray, 57, of Milo and William Elliott, 24, of Corinth prompted police to take the Maine Sex Offender Registry offline as a precaution, a state spokesman said. The website listed the photos, names and addresses of more than 2,200 sex offenders.
The pickup that Marshall was driving was seen leaving a victim’s home after the shooting, Maine police said. Police alerted authorities in Boston after discovering the truck abandoned and bullets linked to Marshall in a bus station bathroom, a state spokesman said.
It was unclear whether Marshall, of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, knew the victims, authorities said.
