Police Charity Defends Use of $1 Million

Members of the Police Foundation on Tuesday defended the use of more than $1 million of the charity’s funds to hire longtime friends and former business associates of Police Chief William J. Bratton as Los Angeles Police Department consultants.
“We are quite satisfied the money was well spent and it was monitored appropriately,” former U.S. Rep. Mel Levine, chairman of the foundation’s board of directors, told the Police Commission.
