Better Conditions Sought for LAX Hotel Workers

The City Council’s Commerce and Tourism Committee voted unanimously Wednesday to draft a proposal that extends the city’s living wage and retention laws to hotel workers in the Los Angeles Airport area and protect the tips of hotel banquet servers.
The committee also directed staff to seek funds to increase hospitality job training opportunities for residents near Los Angeles International Airport and to explore ways to provide healthcare coverage to LAX-area hotel workers.
A day earlier, a report from a community coalition made similar recommendations.
