Barry and Pete Belong Together

As Barry Bonds approaches Babe Ruth’s home run total, I fail to see the controversy. Who can resist America’s pastime, with juiced-up hitters and pitchers, baseballs as hard as pool balls, fans who put the “pro” in profanity, $10 parking, $5 ice cream bars, blaring music, and forgettable players averaging $3 million a season? We love it!

Pete Rose, regarding your [Page 2] quote about being one of the rare guys in this country who isn’t given a second chance and then your reference to the pope’s assassination attempt:
* The pope wasn’t shot in this country. Other people who took shots at heads of states in this country are still doing their time. We’re just mean that way.
* The pope forgave his assailant. Baseball does not. Cruel, maybe, but fact.
* Get over it. It’s getting tiresome.
