Mystified by fussy desert dwellers

RE “It’s 119? Not Here.” [Aug. 17]: We have a bedroom on the second floor of our home -- uncomfortably hot most of this summer (we don’t have air conditioning), but we forswore using a fan. We felt that was the responsible grown-up thing to do since energy grids were overtaxed, and, in our own small way, we didn’t want to add to conditions creating global warming.
Then I read these fools move to the desert and install fogging machines because, although their homes are comfortably air conditioned, they want to enjoy the great outdoors -- just not the climate one finds in the great out of doors in the summertime in Southern California. I say, if you can’t stand the heat, stay out of the desert! It’s no wonder Third World countries hate us.
