First lady mistook cancer for bug bite

First Lady Laura Bush says she first thought a sore on her right shin that turned out to be skin cancer was an insect bite.
“Actually it never occurred to me to make it public,” she said on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”
White House officials had been questioned about why the squamous cell carcinoma, a malignant tumor and the second most common form of skin cancer, was not disclosed publicly until more than a month after its removal, right after the November election.
