Dog days in a new year
Studio Channel Islands Art Center will ring in the Chinese New Year, which starts Jan. 29, with an abundant exhibition featuring works by more than 40 local and international artists. Co-curated by Jim Zhang, “Celebration: Chinese New Year, the Year of the Dog” examines traditional and contemporary ceramics, sculpture and paintings, displayed in the center’s Evans, O’Keefe and Hall Galleries. Also displayed, on loan from the Ventura County Museum of History & Art, is a selection of historical figures by George Stuart, and the Gerd Koch Gallery has mixed-media paintings by Tiger Huang. An opening reception with the artists will include music and dancers.
“Celebration: Chinese New Year, the Year of the Dog,” opening reception, Studio Channel Islands Art Center, Cal State Channel Islands, Camarillo. 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday. Free. (805) 383-1368.
* Hours: noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Ends March 18.
