Sen. Kennedy Cuts Ties to Harvard Alumni Club

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.), who criticized Supreme Court nominee Samuel A. Alito Jr.’s past membership in a controversial Princeton University alumni club, severed his ties with a former Harvard college social club that bans women members.
“He has decided to be taken off their rolls, believing that it is a mistake to continue to be affiliated,” Kennedy spokeswoman Melissa Wagoner said in a statement.
A Washington Times article last week about Kennedy’s ties to the Owl Club sparked criticism from Republicans who called Kennedy a hypocrite.
Harvard ended its ties with the all-male club and others like it in 1984.
