The Train Didn’t Have a Reservation

Before the Hollywood Freeway gouged through the Aliso Street neighborhood downtown, a Santa Fe El Capitan train engine overshot Union Station and crashed through a wall, into an electric trolley pole, and almost into the laps of restaurant diners. The brakeman jumped out before the crash, but the engineer stayed on until the engine stopped, dangling 20 feet above Aliso Street.
